Timbecon

The home of everything you need to get wood working.

"Timbecon is one of Australia's leading woodworking tool and machinery suppliers. With a unique shopping experience and staff that are passionate about all things to do with timber and woodworking we're here to help support you with what you need to get a great result. Regardless of whether you're doing it for a living, are a passionate enthusiast or just need help with that one job, we've got what you need to get the job done and be happy with the results."

I first reached out to Timbecon years ago to see if we could maybe collaborate on a video idea I’d had at the time. They brought me in for a coffee and a chat and the first person I met was John Madden who told me he had seen my lathe-less turning video from Schinbein Drum Co’s YouTube channel. This was years before this Gradually Wizardly project was ever a thing. One of the first things I did with Timbecon was to shoot the first of many Cool Tool Tuesdays videos.

Since then I’ve done a couple hundred other videos both with and for them. Some of my Favourites includes the Parrot Vice video, the Sharpening episode of Timbecon Live!, The nail puller episode (I wrote a fun little Russell Coight-ish intro for that one that makes me chuckle), and the Yamasaki Hatigane episode which featured my friend Ayaka Kinugawa.

Recently, I did a three part series which I fully produced, shot, and edited myself here in my workshop/studio. I hope to do more independent work on their behalf in the coming months. I absolutely love being part of the extended family at Timbecon; let’s be honest, at this point I’m part of the furniture….

For about 18 months or so now, I’ve been working on the sales floor at Timbecon. This has been a very handy arrangement as it ensures that no matter what I will always have at least a bit of cash coming in to cover the basic operating costs of the business if I have a slow week or two. Also, the generous staff discount helps keep tool, machinery, upgrade, and maintenance costs down so that’s a nice little bonus.

If you want to come have a chat, I can usually be found skulking about and bugging people Saturdays and Mondays.

If you’re looking for work, they’re always looking for people to help out and love having actual woodworkers and makers on the floor getting the right tools into the hands of those who need them.
